To build a city where it is impossible to build a city is madness in itself, but to build there one of the most elegant and grandest of cities is the madness of genius. -Alexander Herzen
There is something really magical about Venice. The city was built on 118 small islands in a lagoon. The winding canals can take you where you need to go by water. If you’re walking, you must wind your way through the city finding bridges to cross over canals. One thing I love about Venice is that you must get lost there. There is truly no other way to move around the city. Once you get lost in the winding streets the true magic and beauty of Venice come shining through. Lucky for us, we were lost within minutes of arriving- wandering far away from touristy areas finding a calm and peaceful Venice.

This is the Rialto Bridge it was right outside of our hotel. The bridge is absolutely gorgeous, but as you can see packed wall to wall with people.

This is the Bridge of Sighs and it is a beautiful sight. We ended up accidentally seeing it from the back side first. It was wonderful to see it like this. There were no crowds. No pushing and shoving. No loud noises. Just peace, quiet, canals and the Bridge of Sighs.
